Tips For Promoting Your Fundraising Citrus Sale

1) ESTABLISH GOALS

Before you begin your sale, establish goals for each of your members. Emphasize that the sale is a group effort and a minimum number of cartons must be sold for your group to reach its goal.

Once the sale is underway, continue to motivate your members and keep them up to date on the progress of your sale.

2) KNOW YOUR PRODUCT

Unlike other fundraising products, Florida Citrus is a healthy, all-natural product that is both
nutritional and Ultra-fresh. Let your
community know their citrus will arrive only
days off the tree.

3) START YOUR SALE EARLY

Florida Citrus has become an extremely popular fundraiser so start your sale early and make sure your group is the first in your area to get out and start selling.

When you distribute sales materials, be sure to tell your members that the key to big sales is asking for the order. You'll find your sales will take off and you'll be making friends out of strangers! Take the time to explain the reason behind the sale and then ask for an order. People want to buy our Indian River Citrus but you have to let them know you have it.

Business should be approached early in the sale. Many business owners will purchase fruit from you to give to their employees or to their clients. If you are the first to approach them, you have an excellent chance of receiving an order. Be sure to mention our gift boxes that can be shipped anywhere in the country. While you're there, why not ask if you can place a flyer in a store window or on a bulletin board.

4) PUBLICIZE YOUR SALE

Select one or two creative people to handle your publicity. They can devote their energy towards motivating and promoting while others handle the rest of the sale.

Remember that it's important to let your entire community know about your fruit sale and the reason you are raising funds. Design your publicity to encourage your customers to come to you.
  • If contacted far enough in advance, many local newspapers, radio stations, and television stations will contribute free advertising in the form of a press release. Also, don't forget church bulletins as many churches will also be willing to run an announcement of your sale.

  • Distribute posters and banners advertising your sale throughout the community. Flyers can be posted in windows of most local businesses. Target high traffic areas such as grocery stores, laundromats and dry cleaners, recreation centers, restaurants, gas stations, and drug stores. Why not place a flyer or small poster in the window of your local health food store? You might also consider distributing flyers in shopping center parking lots. Florida Indian River Groves will supply color posters in a variety of sizes. Some are small enough for members to post at work.

  • Set up booths at local sporting events, concerts, malls, fairs, and festivals where people can easily place their orders. This requires a lot less effort than going door to door. Also, many local owners will allow you to place tables outside their business. Focus on areas where there is a high percentage of foot traffic.

  • Let local civic groups know about your sale. Perhaps someone can be present at the next Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, or Knights of Columbus meeting. Let the members know why you're raising money and take orders after the meeting.

  • You might consider placing a coupon in your local newspaper. Community members can then clip the coupon, fill in the appropriate information and mail it to you with a check. An advertisement that includes a phone number for your customers to phone their orders in works quite well. However should you decide to allow your customers to phone in their orders, make certain that all phones are manned so no orders are lost.

5) KEEP GOOD RECORDS

Be sure to save a copy of ALL your order forms. Once your community members have tasted our Fresh Florida Citrus, they'll be jumping at the opportunity to purchase again. Repeat orders are easy to obtain and allow you to expand your sale quickly.

Your order forms will contain the name of each member and the name and phone number of the person he or she sold to. Next year you can give these forms back to your respective members so they can call on the same people again. Should some members move on to other activities, give their order forms to new members. This will prevent you from losing sales.
